WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-9) today joined Mayor Katie Cole, Borough Manager Vito Gadaleta and other state and local officials in a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of the Pompton Lakes streetscape project.
“I was proud to use my many years on the House Transportation Committee to focus on ways we can use transportation to build more livable communities,” said Pascrell, who now serves on the House Ways and Means and Homeland Security committees. “It is not just building interstate highways and fixing bridges. We want to reinvest our tax dollars in projects that will make a difference, in projects that will revitalize the neighborhood, and in projects that will improve and enhance the quality of life. I am pleased the federal government is going to pay its fair share for Pompton Lakes.”
The project will begin on Lenox Avenue to Wanaque Avenue and then proceed from Hamburg Turnpike up Wanaque Avenue to Lakeside Avenue – through the town’s “main street” areas where most of the businesses, restaurants and meeting places are located. It will include new curbs, paver/concrete sidewalks, decorative street lighting and street furniture. The nearly $1.4 million project was made possible by funds secured by Rep. Pascrell.
State Senator Joseph Pennacchio (R-Pine Brook), state Assemblymen Alex DeCroce (R-Whippany) and Jay Webber (R-Whippany) – delegation members of New Jersey’s 26th legislative district – also participated in this morning’s event.
