WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-8) today applauded President Barack Obama’s declaration of a major disaster for the State of New Jersey following a sever winter storm that struck on Dec. 26, 2011. Communities throughout the Eighth Congressional District will be eligible for public assistance for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities, as well as reimbursement for emergency protective measures, including snow assistance.
Congressman Pascrell wrote to President Obama on Jan. 27 in support of Governor Christopher Christie’s application for federal aid.
“I want to thank President Obama for his quick responsiveness to the needs of New Jersey following the severe winter storm at the end of December. This has been a long winter for the state’s residents and businesses,” said Pascrell, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. “This assistance is even more vital in light of the fiscal difficulties facing so many municipalities in New Jersey who may be unable to cope with the large costs created by these winter storms.”
